Starting Nov. 16, 2015, the Georgia volunteer district leaders of International Justice Mission (IJM), a global organization that rescues people all over the world from violence and oppression, will host a Twitter campaign for college students and other interested public. The goal of this campaign, which will run through Nov. 20, 2015, is to respectfully request that Georgia Senator David Perdue cosponsor the S. 553, or End Modern Slavery Initiative Act.
According to IJM, the End Modern Slavery Initiative Act (EMSI) “establishes a non-profit grant making organization that will seek to raise $1.5 billion over seven years in public and private contributions to fund anti-slavery programs outside of the United States.” This initiative strives to strengthen global anti-slavery efforts through the organization of resources and efforts to fight slavery and provide restoration.
Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson has already cosponsored the EMSI, so this Twitter campaign will focus attention on Senator Perdue and ask him to do the same. Participants are also welcome to call the office of Senator Perdue to leave a message with his staff members asking him to cosponsor the act. Instructions and a sample script for that phone call can be found at freedomcommons.ijm.org/IJMCall-In-Day.
